There are many fine golf courses along the coast between Valencia and Alicante. Most are challenging and rate very highly in the opinion of many broadcasters, magazines and commentators. The two nearest courses to Xeraco are the El Saler to the north and Oliva Nova to the south.

El Saler

Directions
18km south of Valencia, towards Cullera.

Course Details
Course Name: El Saler Holes: 18 Yardage: 7095 SSS: 75
El Saler is one of the top ten course in the Golf World ranking. It is a parkland however the holes have links characteristics, giving the golfer a real challenge as each hole is approached.

In the early 1960s, Javier Arana, without a doubt the most famous golf course designer that Spain has ever had, took a walk through El Saler's pine woods beside the sea, and his special intuition foresaw that this area could be used to build a magnificent golf course.
His dream came true, and as the Parador building, known as the Parador Luis Vives, was being built, Javier Arana was charged with creating the golf course.
He made the wise decision to respect the natural landscape as much as possible, including as many of the pines as he could and the dunes that formed a barrier separating the pinewood from the beach. The result is already known by all who have played this par-72 course: broad fairways; huge, difficult greens; few out of bounds areas; almost one hundred bunkers - some of them natural, taking advantage of the dunes, and the presence of the already famous "cat's claw" - sedum grass (a native plant).
In short, without having any further special hazards, the course makes it difficult to come in at par.
The current course record is 62 strokes, set by German Bernhard Langer during the 1984 Spanish Open, which he won.
The course is the site of many important and prestigious national and international tournaments, among which are those of the PGA European Tour, considered among the best golf tours in the world.

El Saler Golf club in Spain has just been voted the 2nd Best golf course in Europe, by Golf World, and host to a number of Spanish opens, this is a 'must' for the golf enthusiast. Twelve holes of the course meander through pine groves, and then six holes are laid out links style through the dunes, along the coastline with punishing rough. A truly excellent course. One of Europes top five rated courses and was the venue for the 2001 Spanish open.
Soft spikes only.

Oliva is an excellent club golfers’ course – flat, easy to get around and fair. There is plenty of well-placed water, but the course does not have hidden tricks, leading to a satisfying round if you play well enough.
There are often several ways to play each hole – a factor attributed to the course’s enigmatic designer, Seve Ballesteros. He has turned a relatively flat terrain into an exciting golf course. The length and pace of the holes have you clubbing with every option, again a feature of clever design.
The 6th is a demanding long par 3 with a big bunker on the left and a ditch in front. At the 8th, a reasonable par 5, beware of waterfront and right of the green. The 15th is the toughest hold on the course, a long par 4 with water creeping on the left. A good drive that clears the left bunker will be the best method to attack the green, but aim at the right half to avoid the lake.
